 Learning from this week:

Math: 

Through whole class instruction, independent work, partner games, and computer games students are learning the 100's Chart, number pattern in a numbers chart, increasing and decreasing by 1's and 10's from any number.

Writing:

We have been making whole class paragraphs with a combination of student and teacher ideas to use as examples for independent writing activities. Daily Fix It Sentences,  Teacher for a Day paragraph, What I saw in the Teacher's Lounge paragraph, All about me words.

Reading:

Students continue to build stamina for reading-to-self. Many have learned how to find a perfect "i-p-i-c-k" book. During book share students will share a summary of the book they are reading with the whole class or two a peer or two. 

Our read-aloud is "Clementine" by Sarah Pennypacker. Ask your child how what happened to Clementine's hair?.. and How Clementine outsmarted the pigeons?

Social Studies: 

What makes you you? We have been exploring what has formed who we are: our likes, our hobbies, our families and our friends. Students have explored having a "Growth Mindset." Their "More Than Just A Mask" art projects showcase how magnificent each student is with and without their mask.

Science:

Students have been introduced to living and non-living things and journaled outside sketching their observations. This will lead into an inquiry into animal lifecycles.

• Shoeboxes: please send your child with a shoebox as we will be needing them to design and map and build our miniature bedrooms.

• Orange Shirt Day: Wednesday October 30
• Terry Fox Run: Friday October 2: Our school is trying to raise $2000 for The Terry Fox Foundation. If you can please donate online. information is available through the classroom blog in posting earlier this week.
