Jan. 28

 January 28th

This weeks learning:

Math: Multiplication: We continue to practice multiplication questions through mad minutes. We have been tracking and graphing our progress using rounding to the nearest 5. Addition: This week we have been using decomposing numbers to add three digit numbers. We have even tackled regrouping with success.

Language ArtsWord Work: We have been looking at "r" controlled vowels. This weeks focus was "ur" words. Some examples are: nurse, blur, turn.

Writing: We have been practicing persuasive paragraphs using a "hamburger model" graphic organizer. We read "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive The Bus," by Mo Willems and brainstormed reasons why a pigeon should drive a bus. Students used these ideas to form their own version of the story or a paragraph persuading the bus driver to let the pigeon live out his dream of driving a bus.

Science: Students learned about the layers of the earth and created their own plasticine earth. They turned out amazing.

Social Studies: Students looked into the symbols represented on the Peru flag. After colouring the Flag of Peru, they created a flag for themselves, showcasing symbols representing them. We looked into mapping and created a map of the world.

Physical Education: Students have been learning throwing and catching techniques in gym.

S.T.E.A.M.: This week we had S.T.E.A.M. cart in our classroom. The students enjoyed the Maker activities and challenges. I was pretty impressed with their portraits of me!
