This Weeks Learning
Writing: We are beginning a unit on narrative writing (story writing). This week we focused on the beginnings. Students are learning how to start a story right before the problem or action. We focused on starting with action. An example of action is "I quickly dodged the fiery lava spewing from the volcano."
Math: We continue working on 3 digit addition strategies. This week we used base ten blocks to add three digit numbers. We reviewed and practiced using other addition strategies in photos below. Students had to solve the case of the Heartbreak Hitman, a Valentine themed who dunnit?
Science: How do we hear? What is Sound? We are looking into, (or better put, listening into) what sound is and how we hear it. This week we learned that sound is vibration and travels in waves called sound waves. wider waves with low frequency make deeper sounds, while narrower waves with higher frequency make higher sounds.
Social Studies: We looked at culture, food and celebrations for Peru. Do you know that they have a cola in Peru that tastes kind of like bubble gum?
With Pink Shirt Day coming next Wednesday, we have been journalling, discussing and reading about what we can do to be kind. We started with ways to be kind in our school. Think about and try and show some ways you can show kindness at home!
